Travel guide
George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is 30 minutes from downtown; Hobby (HOU) is 15 minutes. NRG Stadium is reachable from downtown by METRORail Red Line to Stadium Park/Astrodome — 15 minutes total. For visitors, Houston is a driving city but the Red Line match-day service is the exception.
Downtown Houston is compact; Midtown is the walking-distance food scene; the Museum District is the cultural base and next door to NRG. Rice Village is the upscale boutique-hotel neighborhood. If you want beach access, Galveston is 50 minutes south.
Watch parties fill Midtown and EaDo. Houston's food scene is underrated — Tex-Mex at Hugo's, Vietnamese at Crawfish & Noodles, and Pappas Bros Steakhouse for Texas brisket you pay adult money for. Local quirk: Houstonians are proud of having no zoning — they'll point out a strip mall with three Michelin-starred restaurants and a taqueria as evidence of its genius.
Climate notes
Houston's June and July are hot and muggy — highs in the mid-90s°F with 70-85% humidity. Thunderstorms are near-daily. NRG Stadium has a retractable roof and air conditioning, fully covered even if rain is forecast.
