Travel guide
Miguel Hidalgo International Airport (GDL) connects directly to the US and most of Latin America. Estadio Akron sits in the Zapopan suburb — about 25 minutes from downtown Guadalajara via the Macrobús BRT and a short walk, or 20 minutes by rideshare.
Guadalajara is Mexico's second city but the country's cultural heart: birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and modern Mexican cuisine. Stay in Chapultepec or Providencia for the food-and-craft-cocktail crowd, or in the Centro Histórico to be walking distance from the mariachi squares. Tlaquepaque, 20 minutes away, is the ceramic-and-tequila daytrip that every visiting fan takes.
Watch parties happen at Plaza de los Mariachis for Mexico matches and at any cantina with a big screen on international match days. Signature food: tortas ahogadas (drowned pork sandwiches) for which Guadalajara is famous. Local quirk: Tapatíos, as Guadalajara residents are called, do not use "chido" — they use "padre" for anything cool.
Climate notes
Guadalajara's June and July are warm but manageable — highs in the mid-80s°F and nights in the low 60s°F. Like Mexico City, afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily through the rainy season. Evening matches at 20:00 local time are typically dry and comfortable.
